Wall Chasers - ToolsRUs
Used by masonry workers as well as electricians, wall chasers are convenient, handheld power tools designed to cut grooves into a wall. One or two abrasive discs protrude from the flat bottom of the tool, oriented perpendicular to the surface, and rotate to make the grooves. To operate the tool, you place the bottom of the tool flat against a wall as the rotating discs cut into it, then you push or pull it to form straight cuts.

Wall chasers are used to carve out channels, called chases, into brick so electrical pipe or wiring can be installed. Unlike wood-framed walls that have ample empty space to use for wiring and other electrical components, a brick wall is solid. After the brick wall is built, only then does a worker make the grooves in order to wire up electrical panels. Originally done by hand, workers would use a hammer and chisel to make a chase. A hammer and chase chisel might still be used over small areas when using a large power tool would be impractical.
Depending on the tool, the abrasive discs may be adjustable both for the depth they cut into a wall and their distance apart. It may be necessary to cut a deeper or a wider chase to accommodate larger wires. To save time, adjustments can be made quickly. To prevent dust from blowing everywhere around a work area, power wall chasers feature dust collection bags or a fitting that allows the dust to be channeled away from the chase. To reduce the amount of fine dust particles you might otherwise inhale, you should always wear a mask when using this power tool. You should also wear protective eyewear and ear plugs, for the power tool is very loud when in use.
Vertical slots are typically made by pulling the machine downward, while horizontal chases are made by pushing the tool. Versatile wall chasers have settings for both types of cuts. The power tool draws a lot of amps, so it is not without a cord. A useful helper handle is attached to the tool's top for two-handed stability. A depth scale to make quick disc adjustments, overload and heat protection, a soft start function to get up to speed and a trigger lock for safety are other common features.
Sanchez ends his Senate campaign (Offthekuff)
This news broke late Friday. Leading Democratic U.S. senatorial candidate
Ricardo Sanchez announced Friday that he’s ending his campaign to replace
retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. In a statement issued by his campaign to
supporters, Sanchez said anemic fundraising and the loss of his house to a
fire had led him to conclude that a [...]
