Factors To Consider In Buying A Freezer Today
There are a lot of good reasons to approach the matter of buying a freezer with much thought. When you buy Freezer, it will typically cost you more money than other appliances that can be found in a kitchen like a blender or microwave. Whether you are placing the freezer in your kitchen, basement or garage you will need enough space to house the unit properly.
You should be very cautious whenever you are looking into buying a freezer. Some of the better known brands are Samsung freezer units and GE freezer models. These are both very good companies to buy your freezers from and vary in prices and features.
The Capacity Of The Freezer Unit
Very similar to refrigerators, freezers that are standalone units will have different size capacities ranging from 200 liters to 1000 liters. Before you make your final decision you will have to think about the following questions:
How many people will be needing items out of the unit? If you live in a household with only two people it would be wiser to buy a smaller unit. However, if you are in the catering business or any other business a larger unit would be better.
How often do you go shopping to load up the freezer? If you live close to different markets and stores that sell meat or fish you wont really need a large freezer. Although, if you live further away from stores or even towns a larger unit will be better suited for you.
Are there other freezer units in the house currently? If you are going to use your new freezer to relieve an overstocked unit you already have it would be better for you to go with the larger unit.
Capacity For Storing
Let's face it. Not every household has the sufficient space to accommodate a commercial-sized freezer. You have to determine if the freezer you have set your heart on can be safely placed in its allotted space in the house.
You should think about the space of your floor, ceiling and walls to deduce if you have adequate space to set up your freezer. Proper space will give the freezer good ventilation and makes it very easy to clean around it. Therefore, take all the needed measurements before you go shopping for one.
Preference Of Style
You will have two main selection options when it comes to freezers and those are the chest or upright style. You must base you decision on the pros and cons of each type of freezer that is listed below:
Buying a chest freezer will be a good choice for anyone that wishes to save on energy costs since they are very energy efficient. They also can store very oddly shaped items with ease and will save you money in the long run. However, they cannot organize food as well as a standup freezer so that is somewhat of a draw back.
Freezers that stand upright not only cost more to purchase but also are expensive in terms of energy costs. However, you can store and organize your food very easy and pulling the food out of this unit is quite simple.
Manual defrost times will also need to be considered as well a temperature control and indicator lights. Regardless of the type of freezer that you wish to buy make sure that you are getting all the features and capacity that you wish the unit to have.
How do you organize your chest freezer?
I went to a really big meat sale today and bought 3 large packs of chicken thighs and legs and a couple large packs of pot roast. I seperated the thighs in freezer bags of 3 and the legs in packs of 3 or 4. I put them in a plastic basket I bought at the dollar store which I wrote "CHICKEN" on the side. I plan to do the same with the beef, but what do I do with all the odds and ends in the freezer? Got any idea's?
Date the packages. Use a large permanent ink marker. Put the 'older' foods on the top. If you have a rack that sits up a bit, put juice cans or ice creams in that. Frozen veggies to one side, meats on the other, remember date all packages, use oldest first.
