Everyone is saying what you CANNOT eat...What have others with upper and lower expanders said that you CAN eat? Our daughter just turned 7. She got upper and lower expanders along with upper and lower braces. She got these on the 25th of April, 2008. She is so upset because it is hard for her to find anything that does not stick to the roof of her mouth. Any ideas besides yogurt, applesauce and pudding? I am going to try her on mashed potatoes and gravy today. Thanks!
Poor baby!!! They are putting braces on the kids younger and younger!
Peanut butter with lots of jelly with tiny bites works for me (new dentures, eating without the dentures).
I've been eating cottage cheese with applesauce, and little cuplets of ice cream. Fruit smoothies, or ice-cream laced smoothies (doped with Carnation Instant Breakfast for nutrition) work well. Gelato is great--smooth. I've been surviving on Sonic slushes because my gums are SO sore.
I eat baked potatoes and sweet potatoes, though most of the time I leave the skin behind. Pile it with cheddar cheese & butter, or cinnamon, brown sugar & butter, and smash it well with a fork.
Little bites of canned biscuits aren't too bad. Ramen noodles work well, if you crunch them into little pieces before you cook them. I add crackers to that (ritz or club) to give it some sustenance.
Oragel, children's tylenol, children's motrin will help, and an ice pack may help as well.
